- An estimated 25 to 30 million people use the Internet. (more
like a billion today).
- University students and staff comprise a high percentage
of users (most receive free accounts).
- Most users have some computer savvy since they are on the
Internet.
- There is a higher ratio of men to women.
- Commercial users account for more than 50% of all users.
- E-mail is the most-often used Internet tool.
Caveat: Demographics can be misleading:
- Non-active members (people who sign on once or twice but
continue to pay their monthly bill), are counted.
- People who have very specific uses (perhaps just Email),
get counted.
- Some people register, but give their accounts to others with
marketing demographics that differ than theirs.
